Chicago Wedding Photographer Blog of Sarah Postma Photography bio picture
  • Hello there! I’m Chicago wedding photographer Sarah Postma.

Welcome to my blog! I have a simple philosophy: to make photographs that are interesting, meaningful and real.

I enjoy movies with happy endings, fresh-brewed coffee, and live jazz. I love to travel, and I love city lights almost as much as I love mountains.

After living most my life in Michigan, Washington, and New Jersey (just outside of NYC), I now reside in Chicago. I'm currently accepting wedding commissions throughout the United States and other destinations.

Take a peek at some of my latest wedding photography or e-mail me anytime at sarah@sarahpostma.com

    All my best,
    Sarah

Mona + Bob | Chicago Engagement Session

Mona and Bob’s engagement session was a classic example of spring in Chicago – windy and cold one minute, sunny and calm the next. During their quick engagement session downtown, the weather went from downright miserable to pretty tolerable in a matter of a half hour. These lovely city-dwellers chose to begin their session on the Terrace at Trump (coincidentally the windiest portion of the shoot!) and wrap up with some images on the streets below. I am really looking forward to their wedding in July!

Mona - Sarah – you are amazing! I am not sure how you turned that crazy day into such beautiful photos. Thank you thank you! I can’t wait to work with you again in July.May 11, 2012 – 8:47 am

Annabel + Felipe | NYC Central Park Engagement Session

New York brought out some of its best spring weather for Annabel and Felipe’s engagement session. These two had their first dates in Manhattan and, like so many of us, have enjoyed some of their favorite days in Central Park. So, it was only natural for the park to be the location for their engagement photos!

Philip Wittenberg - Congratulations to the both of you! Absolutely stunning pictures! May His abundant grace be upon you in fullest measure! Phil WittenbergMay 2, 2012 – 3:37 pm

Carol + Matt | MCA Chicago Engagement Session

Carol and Matt’s MCA engagement session really brought together my love for both modern and classic styles in photography. They were so at ease in each other’s arms, dancing through the MCA and surrounding parks, that it’s hard to believe they’re not professional models. Carol planned their outfits in a classic Parisian-chic-inspired look which came through perfectly in this shoot!

A beautiful start to spring here in Chicago! Just a glimpse into Sarah and Flaco’s emotional wedding day first look.

Sarah + Nate | A Chicago Yacht Club Wedding

undefined

Everything about Sarah and Nate’s downtown Chicago wedding was modern and bright. The fuchsia and orange color palette absolutely glowed from the invitations, designed by the bride’s sister Erin German, to the bouquets. Sarah wore a dreamy champagne mermaid-cut gown perfected with a cathedral length veil, which she adored (and I did too!). The bridesmaids bouquets featured fuchsia roses and orange tulips accented with green spider mums. I simply couldn’t get enough when I was photographing all of the modern details at this wedding! Sarah and Nate are truly happy together. Their laughter and joy was evident in every image, and they made my job a true delight from their engagement session all the way to their oh-so-fun reception – such a great party!

Ellie + Jack | A Chicago Engagement Session

undefined

Ellie and Jack are a gorgeous Chicago couple who are getting married next summer. On a recent afternoon, when the last few bits of fall color overlapped with the twinkling lights of holiday decor, we strolled through downtown Chicago for their engagement session. I just love their calm, cool demeanor and their comfort level with each other in front of the camera! Not to mention the combination of Ellie’s stylish winter boots, pink Burberry scarf, and Jack’s effortless smiles that just show his admiration for her so, so well.

Lisa + Alex | A New Jersey Wedding

undefined

Personalized, emotional, wedding perfection – that’s how I like to describe Lisa and Alex’s late fall wedding. At every turn, I found the most heartfelt details – that Lisa had spent months imagining – come to life. From the cap-sleeved embroidered gown that seemed to be made only for her (but was actually a vintage consignment find!) to the couple’s intensely personalized vows, I felt truly honored to be capturing their day in photos. And I haven’t even mentioned the inspirational love quotes printed on the candles at the reception, the adorable vintage-styled bird cake topper, an emotional dance shared by Alex and his grandmother, or the choreographed salsa dance that the couple performed as a surprise to their guests! This wedding will stand as a forever-favorite of mine, held up by a solid foundation of intimate real moments mixed with pure prettiness.

Kristen + Mike | A Chicago Engagement Session

undefined

I’m blogging this super sweet engagement session in the midst of a snowstorm! But just over a week ago, there were clear skies and the temp was 55 degrees, so Kristen and Mike and I took advantage. I really like these two. They’re a ton of fun to be around and they have a super cute dog – Daisy – named after Half Acre‘s popular pale ale, Daisy Cutter. We started out their session at Oak Street Beach, where I am always amazed how Chicago’s skyline converges with white sand and the lake. Then, we headed down the street to their favorite local watering hole to grab a pint of Daisy Cutter – because, hey, the best engagement sessions end with a pint of craft beer!

Sarah + Flaco | A Chicago Engagement Session

undefined

What a winter we’ve been having! Somehow, right between a few unseasonably-warm days, we managed to schedule Sarah and Flaco’s engagement session for a very chilly, windy day. But the sunshine and their incredible level of comfort with one another warmed these photos right up. I loved that they wanted to spend some time in the park location where they got engaged, as well as the busy Milwaukee corner near their Logan Square neighborhood. I always enjoy getting to know the neighborhoods in which my couples live, and I think it means so much more to have photos of sentimental locales to look back on over the years. Many thanks to these two for proving that a winter engagement session can be about as lovely as they come!

Jenny + Joe | Chicago Union Station and Millennium Park Engagement Session

I’m always thrilled when my clients want to visit a location that’s meaningful to them during their engagement session. For Jenny and Joe, that location was the ice skating rink in Millennium Park, which we hit up at the end of their shoot. But before we went outside in the wintry air, we enjoyed the warmth and architecture of Chicago Union Station. I really loved their casual style and the way that Joe smiled at Jenny. I think this session shows their love so well, and I can’t wait for their wedding later this year!

Laura Fiore - These are beautiful Sarah. And so fun!!!March 2, 2012 – 12:19 am
