I have a simple philosophy: Make photographs that are interesting, meaningful and real.
My life-long love for photography has followed me everywhere. My creativity blossomed shooting with my 35mm Pentax in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico and Peru. My portraiture evolved at a boutique studio in the Pacific Northwest. My favorite photographs have emerged while shooting life and culture in New York City. My images share authentic elements of interest, unscripted emotion, humor, and love. They are blissfully real moments in my life. I would be so honored to capture the real moments in yours.
I enjoy movies with happy endings, freshly-brewed black coffee, and live jazz. I love to travel, but have yet to backpack through Europe. I love city lights and I love mountains. I married a mathematician - one of the most creative people I know.
After living most my life in Michigan and Washington, I now reside in Northern New Jersey and spend much of my time in New York City. I'm currently accepting wedding commissions throughout the United States and other destinations.
I would love to meet you, hear all about the details of your wedding, and have the opportunity to capture the important moments in your life.
Remember Jen & Anthony’s gorgeous wedding from this spring? Well, I was lucky enough to photograph them again! Since they weren’t able to coordinate an engagement session before their wedding, they opted to do a session after the wedding – and it was so much fun! The Planting Fields at Oyster Bay are drop-dead gorgeous in the summertime, so it was the perfect location for their shoot. Here are a few of my favorite photos of this wonderful couple from what I like to call their Just Married! photo session.
How lucky am I that one of New Jersey’s most talented makeup artists also happens to be one of my past brides? (If you were reading my blog around this time last year, you might remember Amanda’s wedding!) Well, Amanda has since formed a successful bridal makeup business called Fetch Beauty and is now creating some seriously gorgeous wedding-day faces. Just check out what her clients have to say about her over on WeddingWire!
One thing that I love most about Amanda is how truly dedicated she is to her clients. If you meet her in person and it seems like she puts her whole heart and soul into her work, it’s because she does! That’s why I was so honored when she asked me to photograph a styled shoot for her a few weeks ago. We collaborated with some major talent; the models, hairstylists, boutique dress shop, and the venue were absolutely fabulous. And I think we created some amazing imagery to show off Amanda’s talent! Some of my favorite photos are below.
There’s just something about play time. Every time I shoot a family portrait session with kids outdoors, I’m drawn to the memories of my back yard sandbox and soccer games with my brothers. And I’m always left with the same feeling – we could all use a little more play time.
Meet Rosie and Anna. Their mom and dad asked me to visit for a portrait session in their back yard, and I had an absolute blast photographing them. Oh, and I had fun playing too!
Anna’s little red Nike sneakers were adorable. She’s 2 1/2, so when mom asked if she wanted to wear some pretty sandals, she said no. Classic. :)
Counting to five with dad:
Perhaps my favorite part of the session was airplane time:
And little Rosie brought out her best smile for me!

I have some big news to share today! Sarah Postma Photography is growing and I’m looking forward to shooting some absolutely amazing weddings throughout the 2010 and 2011 seasons! I’m so grateful to all of my clients, friends, and family who have made my dream of creating meaningful, real photography, a reality for me.
That’s why I’m so excited to announce the following:
1. I am now offering wedding photography in Chicago, Illinois!
2. As of October 1, 2010, my office will be based in Chicago!
Now, you might have a few questions to go along with this announcement, so I’ll be clear: Yes, I am still offering wedding photography in New York and New Jersey and have already booked many weddings well into 2011. In fact, nearly all of July 2011 is now booked with NY/NJ weddings, and I’m thrilled that I will continue serving this area. I’d also be happy to shoot your destination wedding, no matter where it might be. My new pricing includes all of my travel to keep things simple (and affordable) for you.
Let me say again, for those weddings already booked with me, absolutely nothing will change. I’m still your photographer, and still completely honored that you have chosen me to create unforgettable images of your wedding. I can’t wait to photograph you!
And one more thing:
To go along with this announcement (because I cannot wait to meet all of you Chicago brides and grooms!), the next couple to book their wedding coverage with me in the Chicagoland area will receive a FREE 20-page, 10×10 ALBUM.
Seriously, what could be better than knowing that a custom-designed, hand-made wedding album is coming your way at no charge to you?! This is a huge savings. Simply give me a call, e-mail, skype, or text, and when you sign your contract reserving me for your wedding, I’ll add a free album to your coverage!
Want to see what my albums look like? Check out the album design below that Nancy and Michael just ordered from their Long Branch, NJ, wedding last October! This hand-made album is being assembled right now and I’m so excited to see it completed soon!
Beautiful. Stunning. Gorgeous. I use these words a lot for wedding photography on my blog, but today I reserve these words for an amazingly beautiful, stunningly gorgeous 6-month-old baby! Lily is a 100% happy baby! I’ve never seen her cry, even when I photographed her at two-weeks old back in September. She’s all smiles!
I’m so thankful that Andrea and Mark again allowed me to share a little time with them to capture photos of Lily at this stage in her life. I love baby photography! Check out my favorites from her session:
