Exciting news! – Now offering Chicago Wedding Photography

***** This post is just hanging out on the front page for the next few months.  Scroll down to see the latest posts! *****

I have some big news to share today!  Sarah Postma Photography is growing and I’m looking forward to shooting some absolutely amazing weddings throughout the 2010 and 2011 seasons!  I’m so grateful to all of my clients, friends, and family who have made my dream of creating meaningful, real photography, a reality for me.

That’s why I’m so excited to announce the following:

1.  I am now offering wedding photography in Chicago, Illinois!

2.  As of October 1, 2010, my office will be based in Chicago!

Now, you might have a few questions to go along with this announcement, so I’ll be clear:  Yes, I am still offering wedding photography in New York and New Jersey and have already booked many weddings well into 2011.  In fact, nearly all of July 2011 is now booked with NY/NJ weddings, and I’m thrilled that I will continue serving this area. I’d also be happy to shoot your destination wedding, no matter where it might be.  My new pricing includes all of my travel to keep things simple (and affordable) for you.

Let me say again, for those weddings already booked with me, absolutely nothing will change.  I’m still your photographer, and still completely honored that you have chosen me to create unforgettable images of your wedding.  I can’t wait to photograph you!

And one more thing:

To go along with this announcement (because I cannot wait to meet all of you Chicago brides and grooms!), the next couple to book their wedding coverage with me in the Chicagoland area will receive a FREE 20-page, 10×10 ALBUM.

Seriously, what could be better than knowing that a custom-designed, hand-made wedding album is coming your way at no charge to you?! This is a huge savings.  Simply give me a call, e-mail, skype, or text, and when you sign your contract reserving me for your wedding, I’ll add a free album to your coverage!

Want to see what my albums look like?  Check out the album design below that Nancy and Michael just ordered from their Long Branch, NJ, wedding last October!  This hand-made album is being assembled right now and I’m so excited to see it completed soon!

New Jersey Baby and Family Photography – Lily & Family!

Beautiful.  Stunning.  Gorgeous.  I use these words a lot for wedding photography on my blog, but today I reserve these words for an amazingly beautiful, stunningly gorgeous 6-month-old baby!  Lily is a 100% happy baby!  I’ve never seen her cry, even when I photographed her at two-weeks old back in September.  She’s all smiles!

I’m so thankful that Andrea and Mark again allowed me to share a little time with them to capture photos of Lily at this stage in her life.  I love baby photography!   Check out my favorites from her session:

WPPI Las Vegas Convention 2010

I had a great time at WPPI this year!  It was actually my first time to the annual Las Vegas convention, despite a few years of membership in the organization that sponsors it, Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.  While I was there, I took advantage of workshops, tweet-ups, and all of the general fun that was to be had by the nearly 14,000 photographers participating in the event!

Here are a few images from my time there:

Here’s the incredible Marcus Bell chatting with us about style and what he looks for in an image:

I love the lions in the MGM Grand.  I had to stop by and say hello to them each day while I was there.  :)

A view from the top of Palms Place:

Here’s the uber-talented Amelia Lyon, gearing up to shoot some images of Candice and Mark Brooke during her Lyon-Shop:

Love this couple.  They’re 100% sweet and amazing photographers too!

See you next year, Vegas!

Winter Wonderland – Part 2 – Kate and Linzi

Here’s Part Two of my Winter Wonderland shoot; minus the dreamy winter snow scenes.  I guess Washington D.C. kept all the snow for themselves last weekend!

Kate and Linzi braved the chilly temps and wind to model for Kyle and me.  We took quite a few warm-up breaks in the Chelsea Market nearby and did most of the shooting on the High Line and around 9th and 15th.

^^^ See all that snow on the ground in the photo above?^^^  Yep, that’s all we got in NYC on Saturday!

Linzi is a designer in her own right, and she made this amazing orange coat herself.

Linzi also designed the outfit that Kate is wearing.  I love fashion talent!

Winter Wonderland – Part 1 – My friends!

As I sit here on the eve of what weather forecasters say will be an actual snowy day, I can’t help but laugh about the snowy shoot I planned for last Saturday that resulted in a complete lack of snow.  :)  I’ve also learned that the best way to keep in touch with one’s clients about major life milestones is to invite them to wear their wedding dress one more time.  I had more than one client announce that they might not fit into their dress for a while on account of pregnancy!  Quite exciting, I might add!  So, my last-minute Winter Wonderland shoot became a great time hanging out with my friends, a fellow wedding photographer, and a couple of models who were up for the challenge of spending some time out in the freezing cold.  Oh, and because everyone who RSVP’d lived in NYC, we moved the shoot to the High Line in Lower Manhattan.

First up, I wanted to share a few photos of my good friends Paula and Paula.  Yes, I have two friends named Paula!  Aren’t they lovely?

Complete sweethearts.  I love my friends!

Winter Wonderland!

This morning I woke up to a light dusting of snow.  Yay!  For some reason, I feel like my winter has seriously been lacking in the snow department.   I guess North Jersey and NYC have been slightly out of range for the big snowstorms that hit the rest of the east coast this winter.  A little more snow might come our way on Saturday, so I’m going to try to take advantage of it!

And that brings me to the title of this post…

A Winter Wonderland Shoot – for all of my past, present, and future brides & grooms!

When?
Saturday, February 6, 2010
2pm – 5pm

Why this Saturday?
Because snow is hard to predict and the forecast looks good for it right now!

Where?
Meet at my place in Rutherford, NJ at 2pm.
Then, we’ll carpool over to Hoboken to do the shoot in/near Frank Sinatra Park. We’ll have (hopefully) snowy park spaces, the view of NYC, and some nice wintry trees/branches to work with.

Who is invited?
Anyone who wants a super-fun, wintry photo of themselves, their friends, or their significant other. If you have a group of friends who want to join you and simply wear their favorite fabulous outfit, they are definitely invited! This doesn’t have to be all wedding dresses!

How will I stay warm?
Well, since this isn’t your real wedding day, bring along your warmest boots, coat, hat (or earmuffs that won’t mess up your hair; I won’t judge!), and mittens. I’ll attempt to get us close to a restaurant or coffee shop where we can make warm-up stops, and we’ll also have at least one car nearby to warm up in. Hot cocoa and coffee will be on hand as well!

How much?
This event is completely FREE. I simply wanted a reason to go shoot in the snow! And you’ll also get some cool swag in the form of one 8×10 (or 2 5x7s) and a web-ready disc of your images, delivered about a week after the shoot.

What about my makeup?
Wear makeup that suits you. Just a little extra mascara, blush and lipstick go a long way to making you look extra fabulous in photos. (Photography usually shows less makeup than you actually have on, so feel free to do it up a bit more than normal.)

Should I rent a tux for my man?
That’s completely up to you. Your man can dress however you choose, whether that’s his favorite suit, a vintage jacket and pants from a thrift store, or jeans and a t-shirt. I’m all for creativity here!

Want to join us?
E-mail me at sarah@sarahpostma.com to let me know you’ll be joining us! Questions? E-mail me there as well!

And to get you in the spirit of a wintry shoot, here are a few images I shot a few days ago at a get-together with a bunch of fab New York/New Jersey photographers and models.
