Cassandra & Joe - A Bay Harbor, Michigan, Wedding

Last weekend I photographed Cassandra and Joe’s wedding at Bay Harbor Resort in northern Michigan. I can’t say enough great things about this resort or about the lure of a “destination wedding” right in this bride and groom’s home state. It’s so very cool for couples from the Detroit area (or anywhere in Michigan!) to be just a few hours from white-sand beaches and clear blue waters that have the glamour of the Caribbean, but are only missing the palm trees. Cassandra and Joe chose Bay Harbor because it is seriously one of the very best locations along the lake. Absolutely stunning.

Here are some of my favorite photos from their day:

Cassandra has such a fun, sincere happiness about her. I certainly didn’t have to work very hard to catch her smiling!

And Joe is quite simply Cassandra’s true match: one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met!

Seriously, look at this gorgeous bride and her genuine smile!

They opted for a “first look” moment before the ceremony which meant for some GREAT images of sincere, expressive, adorable interactions between them. Here they are at the very moment they saw each other for the first time.

I’m not kidding when I say this one’s a match made in heaven. :)

With all the smiling they were doing, you might not have noticed it was a rainy, chilly day.

The lake was pretty rough and the wind was blowing strong … but all I saw was the perfect opportunity for a beautiful, warm, vintage-style image and a couple totally in love!

The ceremony was held under a tent because of the rain, but I was really digging the light that still made it into these photos! The white made these flowers pop and I love this little guy’s expression as he walked in. :)

Beautiful!

I just love that Joe appears to be showing off his new ring in this shot!

The bridal party was truly a group of super-happy people.

Cassandra and Joe performed a choreographed first dance that was a little jazzy and very fun. I loved how they looked completely lost in this moment … like no one else was in the room but them.

The dip. :) I was really loving the glossiness of the floor and their reflection.

Dad and daughter … Mom and son …

And then the ring bearers got the party rolling!

We took a few moments near sunset to grab a few more romantic portraits.

Hot, hot, hot!

I had such a great time at this wedding!! Cassandra and Joe, thank you so much for having me!

Oh, and I wanted to give a little sneak peek to the groom’s brother’s family … I did a family session with them the day before the wedding. Here’s a little teaser for now! :)

I’m also enjoying a fabulous time visiting with some family while I’m here (I grew up in Michigan!) and even photographing old friends’ families and children. It’s not completely typical for me to be doing so many extra portrait sessions during wedding season, but I’m finding it hard to pass up such great opportunities as to photograph on Lake Michigan or to do portraits of my college roommate’s newborn baby! I’ll post an image or two of those in a few days, too.

Xander at Six Months - New Jersey Child Photography

I love it when my clients come back to me again after their weddings for another type of photo session. Earlier this week, I had the privilege of photographing the nephew of one of last year’s wedding couples, Andrea and Mark. (Remember their Pier Sixty, New York wedding?) Xander was just a perfect little guy during his entire session! He got a little sleepy near the end (play-time is tiring stuff!) but he wasn’t a crier at all … just a smiler. I like smilers. :)

Here are a few of my faves from his session.

My favorite part about baby portrait sessions is the time I get to lay on the floor and just talk baby-talk. He might have just been goo-goo-ga-ga-ing, but he was talking to me in this one! And he looks so inquisitive.

Giggles. Yep, he’s quite the model!

Of course he’s teething, so I thought a little thumb-in-mouth image was OK. We did our best to keep him from chewing on his little fingers though! :)

He was full of cute expressions. Even just a simple study of his hand and a glance up at mom were enough to make my heart melt.

And, yes, it was a fun little break from wedding editing. Now, back to it!

The beautiful Pacific Northwest

Well, my friends, I’m back safe and sound in the New York metro area but I still have mountains on my mind. :) All of these images from the northwest keep popping up on my computer screen! And I’ll let you in on a little secret: It doesn’t really rain in Seattle in July. Maybe a drizzle here and there, but the majority of the month is sunny and warm. We spent a few days in Seattle and a few more days up in Bellingham, where I lived most recently before moving to New Jersey.

My trip consisted of coffee …

Good friends (and ice cream!) …

Chickens! (These are my friend Amber’s young hens) …

Fireworks …

Spot prawns … (have you ever had shrimp that tasted as good as lobster? These do!)

Hula-hooping …

My old backyard …

Snow on Mt. Baker … and snow jumping!

Mountain goodness …

And a little Seattle …

Neha & Joe - A Westminster Hotel Wedding - New Jersey Photography

Neha and Joe were married at the Westminster Hotel in Livingston, NJ, last weekend and wow-o-wow was this wedding beautiful. I don’t actually have enough words like gorgeous, beautiful or stunning to do it justice so I’ll use photos. :) Here we go!

Neha. Looked. Amazing.

Joe’s attire:

One of my very favorite “First Look” groom expressions yet. :) This is way cute.

The fountain area outside the hotel was a great spot for some images of the bride and groom.

OK, I was totally loving the sky that day.

It was pretty hot outside, so we used the super-cool bar area in the hotel for some more photos.

This place rocks!

And now, on to the ceremony!

Not many of these will end up black and white (I’m too in love with all the color!) but I thought the moments where Joe was waiting behind this beautiful linen for Neha to arrive worked well.

Here comes the bride:

There was a ton of laughter and joy in their ceremony. Everyone was having a good old time. :)

More laughter. :)

And then a little fire …

All the other married women took a few moments to whisper advice in Neha’s ear at this part of the ceremony. I love the sweet look on her face as a secret is being passed on to her.

And finally, I love this kiss shot. Most of their family had gathered close around them by this point, and I had to bump a few elbows so I could get in there too. :)

The cocktail hour began with some amazing sitar background music. Check out how intricate the carvings are on this sitar.

Both bride and groom had a wardrobe change after the wedding. This wasn’t the first wedding this year with a dress change, but it was the first with a change of the groom’s attire! :) I love this tradition.

Check out how relaxed and cool Joe looks in his tux.

The henna, the lilies, the sparkles … Neha had two absolutely gorgeous wedding dresses.

As the reception began, these two little ladies got right down to business: dancing. And the DJ’s lightshow certainly added to their entertainment.

Lillies, colorful lights, and an amazing ballroom space all made the Westminster Hotel a venue to be envied.

During their first dance, I don’t think Joe stopped smiling.

And Neha led the dances as the night went on.

But not to be out-danced by Joe.

LOVED this crowd. Best guests ever.

And because I can’t blog forever (I wish I could!) I’ll leave you with another colorful image of Neha and Joe during a toast.

Neha and Joe, thank you so much for being a super fun couple who enjoyed your wedding day so much! The love between you shows so much in these images. Lisa and I had so much fun photographing you, and we’re so incredibly happy for you!
