Jillian + Kyle - A Central Park Engagement Session

What can you do on a chilly, windy Sunday afternoon in New York City? Why not an engagement session? :) This fabulous couple and I had been planning on this particular afternoon for the past two months, since Kyle would be driving in from Pennsylvania. They had everything planned: Jillian’s super-cute red sweater, their perfectly faded jeans, and the evening after the session to be spent with family in NJ. I anticipated perfect fall colors and a mild day in Central Park, but didn’t quite get what I had planned! I’m always up for a challenge, and I had my good photo friend Nicole along for the ride, so we knew for sure that this photo session (however chilly) would be fantastic.

We split our time between the warmth of a hotel lobby and the cool air of Central Park, and I’m willing to say this engagement session has become one of my favorites. Jillian and Kyle, you were so awesome to tough out the cold; thanks for trusting me that we’d get great photos!

As always, here are a few of my favorites:

Aren’t they so cute together?

Here’s the hotel lobby where we spent quite a bit of time staying warm, and a great art deco doorway:

We did manage to find some trees hinting at autumn and I like the fun color in the fallen leaves:

I loved Jillian’s shoes:

It was great that they could just cuddle to stay warm and forget about being photographed:

Jillian has such a great smile!

We also stayed warm down in the subway for a little bit. Totally worth it, if you ask me!

I always like to try to snap a photo of couples holding hands. This one is really sweet:

And I never tire of finding reflections in an image. I love this one:

Jillian and Kyle, I’m so excited to photograph your wedding next year! Thanks for making this engagement session so beautiful!

Lauren + Matt - A New Jersey Wedding in Hewitt and Picatinny

I’m not sure I can sum up Lauren and Matt’s wedding in the space of a blog post. There were so many perfect details, tender moments, and happy people. But I’ll give it a try!

You may remember Lauren and Matt’s engagement session from last spring. In planning for their session, I learned of Lauren’s love for nature and everything spring, fall, colorful and green. I also learned that Lauren is a bit of an environmental advocate, and in lieu of favors, the couple made donations in honor of their guests to the Jane Goodall Institute. (So cool!) Lauren was also the queen of wedding planning, and each time she e-mailed me to chat about photos, she’d say something like, “Well, my theknot.com countown says 53 days!” This woman was as excited and prepared as a bride could possibly be. So, I was quite sure she was going to have a fantastic wedding. And she did.

The day began with snow, which by noon became simply the brisk but beautiful wind of an autumn Saturday. The chilly air didn’t phase Lauren though. Being the nature-lover that she is, she wanted to spend quite a bit of time doing photos outdoors.

Check out her amazing Maggie Sottero dress in her beautiful green room at her parents’ house:

Here, her bridesmaids help her into her dress:

This is a really sweet detail. I think each of us has a favorite thing from childhood, and Lauren has had this stuffed animal for many, many years. He’s been with her so long he even dressed in a little tux for the occasion of her wedding:

My eyes are often misty during the exchange of vows at a wedding ceremony. But on this wedding day, I was moved to tears a little early, as Lauren opened a gift from her soon-to-be husband. Let me set the tone for you…

“Now,” said he, “shall I give you a kiss?” and she replied with a slight primness, “If you please.” She made herself rather cheap by inclining her face toward him, but he merely dropped an acorn button into her hand, so she slowly returned her face to where it had been before, and said nicely that she would wear his kiss on the chain around her neck. It was lucky that she did put it on that chain, for it was afterwards to save her life.

Here’s Lauren opening her gift of a “kiss” from Matt. Wow, this guy gets it.

Now that I’m tearing up again, I just have to show you how gorgeous Lauren was. She was seriously glowing all day!

Her bouquet was probably the high point of the day’s details. When she saw it for the first time she remarked how it was exactly what she wanted. I love how it’s so natural, delicate, and a bit whimsical. Just gorgeous!

I love seeing a bride and her bridesmaids share a laugh:

(There are some great photos of Matt and the groomsmen getting ready too, but I’m going to let my fabulous second photographer, Nicole Haley, be the one to reveal those over on her blog later.)

During the ceremony, Lauren was smiling the whole time:

Exchanging rings. That smile is still there!

Here’s a shot that I love. It’s one of those that I felt in the moment was really beautiful, and I got the shivers when I saw it again while preparing it for this post:

After the ceremony, we spent some time doing some fun portraits outdoors:

The bridal party did the serious look pretty well:

But mostly, they were having a great time laughing:

These two make a pretty hot bride and groom!

Lauren really wanted to do some cute images while sitting down in the leaves. I loved it!

Again, I want to thank Nicole for being such a fantastic addition to photographing this wedding. While I was capturing this moody image:

She was getting this great shot. Lauren’s animal print shoes were so cool! :)

The reception took place at the Cannon Gate Club at Picatinny Arsenal. The space around the golf course there proved to be a perfect backdrop for more fall-colored wedding photos:

I love how relaxed they both were. They are so in love!

By the way, her flowers were done by F.H. Corwin Florist in Warwick, NY.

I can’t forget a great portrait of the groom:

Here’s just a tiny glimpse at some of the details at the reception. Each table was graced with a sweet bird like this one, and Lauren wore a peacock feather in her hair for the party:

More of the glowing table decor and a glimpse of their cake:

Their first dance was choreographed and I LOVE that it incorporated sweet glances like this one:

The kiss at the end of their dance:

Lauren dancing with her dad:

She also announced a super sweet dance with her mom. Here, her sister joins in. I love this moment:

And what would a wedding reception be without a little air guitar?

And a little more air guitar:

Sometimes I crawl around on the floor at wedding receptions just to get shots like this:

This is one of my favorites. This couple is so cool!

And hot. Wow, Lauren. I love it!

Lauren and Matt, thank you so much for allowing me to photograph your wedding. It was a spectacular day!

Nancy + Mike - A Long Branch Wedding at Avenue

Nancy and Mike were married last weekend at a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the rooftop of Avenue in Long Branch, NJ. I’m so excited to share my favorite images from their wedding. The whole day felt care-free and fun, and the details were incredible. I won’t babble anymore; just look at these! I’m in love!

The dress and the detail on Nancy’s bouquet was delicious:

Her simple and elegant Jimmy Choo shoes:

Nancy’s beautiful sister helped with her dress:

I love her eyelashes!

Wow. Seriously, wow!

Once again I am so thankful for a bride and groom who wanted to do a “First Look” moment before their ceremony:

This was so sweet. Mike totally had to check out every detail when he first saw Nancy. Here he his admiring her veil:

I loved the way this gazebo-like structure framed the gorgeous blue sky of their wedding day:

A big thanks goes out to Peter Miller for assisting me at this wedding and capturing this gorgeous shot:

Chance of rain? Nah.

All the flowers were expertly arranged by Floral Fantasy, the owner of which also happens to be a very good friend of the bride and groom. They looked absolutely stunning.

As the sun began to set, they said their vows:

I love capturing the, “We’re married!” moment. It’s a true joy.

Some gorgeous, yummy light and a perfect wedding couple:

We took a few minutes to do some wedding photos down by the beach, which I adore:

Avenue is a super chic, trendy, colorful space that was perfect for the party atmosphere Nancy and Mike wanted to create. When I first met them, they excitedly told me that their reception was to have the feel of a hip, modern club. They wanted their guests to have a great time and not worry about the traditions of a typical wedding reception. If the rooftop pool and colors in this image are any indication, I think they pulled it off:

Behind the pool was a great fireplace area and I caught these bridesmaids posing in front of it:

Inside, the dance floor seriously rocked thanks to DJ Unique. He’s ridiculously good and NOT your typical wedding DJ. He’s really an A-lister and has been DJing for years at seriously popular NYC and NJ clubs. Nerio Matheus, an amazing percussionist, also enhanced the music with his mad skills. It was so cool to hear the DJ’s music and the drums work so well together. I was floored by how cool the sound was!

Meanwhile, out in front of the dancing, guests were lining up near the TV to watch the Yankees in extra innings against the Twins:

This proves that you CAN dance with grandma and still manage to watch the Yankees game!

And here’s what it’s like to be at a wedding reception when the Yankees win:

Woohoo!

The party went late into the night with the guests joining in on the percussion. A little more cowbell, perhaps? :)

Nancy and Mike, thank you so much for an awesome time … I was right out there dancing too, and this wedding was one of the best parties I’ve seen! I hope you’re having an amazing time on your honeymoon, and enjoy this preview of your photos!

Wedding Albums Galore!

Cassandra and Joe’s wedding album arrived and I just had to snap a few images before I shipped it out to them yesterday. I offer so many cover choices and it’s so great when a couple takes me up on my suggestion to try something different than the standard black leather. This album incorporates the couple’s wedding colors to the fullest extent and it totally rocks. The handmade leather cover brings out the yellow in Cassandra’s bouquet, and the design enhances the colors in the bridesmaids’ dresses. This album is seriously delicious. Yet another wedding album that I wanted to keep for myself. ;)

Watch how the colors make this album truly unique:

This yellow is seriously gorgeous in person too:

A shot of one of the beautiful 2-page spreads:

And a glimpse inside to the last page:

Also, check out this turn-around time … Cassandra and Joe were married on July 18, had their favorite images picked out by the end of August, and after design time and production time, their complete album will be in their hands less than 3 months after their wedding!
