Sarah & Drew - A Central Park Engagement Session

This is one of those blog posts where I just want to start typing a bunch of exclamation points; I’m so excited to share these images. Really!!!!!!! I love this couple! (There, I got it out of my system.) ;)

Sarah and Drew are such a fun-loving couple and their attitude is contagious. I found myself laughing right along with them, and in all of our rambling around Central Park, I think I became just as excited about their wedding as they are. I don’t know what else to say except that I wouldn’t mind speeding right through winter to get to this wedding. But, for now, let’s get to the engagement photos!

I love that there were so many leaves out on the Great Lawn and the light was just right:

Drew is so good at making Sarah laugh!

We headed over to Bethesda Terrace to get a few images by the Angel of Waters Fountain. This place is always packed, and it was especially so on this amazing day, but I love that we managed to minimize the extra people in this shot.

They’re relaxed, happy, and in love. Makes for good engagement photos!

I was so thrilled when I looked through these branches of colorful leaves to find perfect placement for each of their faces. :)

This willow tree is one of my absolute favorite spots in Central Park. I loved it in the spring when I shot Neha & Joe’s engagement session, and here it is again with the leaves about ready to fall:

This couple is good at every look: romantic, joyful, serious. Here they are being fabulously fierce:

And incredibly cute:

There is such an awesome mix of natural daylight and fluorescent lights in this space:

So happy:

The colors on this afternoon were perfect. The last bit of autumn, and I think the best way to spend a day like this is by making photographs!

Finally, this is one of my absolute favorites. I just love everything about it:

Wow, Sarah and Drew, you guys are so much fun! I can’t wait for your wedding next year!

Esther & Michael - A New York City Engagement Session

They were lucky enough to get a key to Gramercy Park. I was lucky enough to get a couple so in love, they forgot I was shooting their photos. And that’s a perfect combination.

I can’t wait for this couple’s wedding next weekend at the Gramercy Park Hotel. Here is a glimpse into their engagement session, which was by far one of the most fun of the season. Michael makes Esther laugh constantly, and he also loves to dance, which seriously made for one happy photographer.

When I told them to have a seat on this bench, this is what they did naturally. Perfect:

And then, the dancing ensued. Yes, I barely got Esther’s hand in the shot on the right, but these lovebirds were moving quickly! I didn’t know what they were going to do next! I love it:

Awesome color and an awesome couple:

There’s something I love about this photo. It’s sweet, while being a little sophisticated. I don’t know … as if I interrupted a conversation they were having and they graciously obliged to have their photo taken, knowing how fabulous they looked. I just think it’s cool:

Michael continued to lead the dancing:

And I’ll end on this one, which was yet another pose they just naturally fell into after I placed them in this spot beneath the trees:

They’re such naturals, I know they’ll also play the part of bride and groom incredibly well! See you two next weekend!

Jessica & Greg ~ NJ Botanical Gardens Engagement Session

About a week ago, I had the honor of hanging out for a couple of hours with this super cool couple. I think it was actually the peak day for autumn color this season; the perfect moment of oranges, yellows and reds on trees still full of their leaves. The parking lots of the NJ Botanical Gardens were absolutely packed with people taking advantage of the beautiful day.

Jess and Greg are getting married next July, and just from this session, I know for a fact their wedding is going to be so full of love and laughter. I can’t wait! Here are a few of my favorites from this totally delightful engagement session:

It’s hard for me to pick a favorite favorite, but this is definitely one of them:

And, wow. Where did spring come from?! Were these pink leaves not the coolest find?!

What a PERFECT session! Thanks, Jess and Greg, for rockin’ it!

Jillian + Kyle - A Central Park Engagement Session

What can you do on a chilly, windy Sunday afternoon in New York City? Why not an engagement session? :) This fabulous couple and I had been planning on this particular afternoon for the past two months, since Kyle would be driving in from Pennsylvania. They had everything planned: Jillian’s super-cute red sweater, their perfectly faded jeans, and the evening after the session to be spent with family in NJ. I anticipated perfect fall colors and a mild day in Central Park, but didn’t quite get what I had planned! I’m always up for a challenge, and I had my good photo friend Nicole along for the ride, so we knew for sure that this photo session (however chilly) would be fantastic.

We split our time between the warmth of a hotel lobby and the cool air of Central Park, and I’m willing to say this engagement session has become one of my favorites. Jillian and Kyle, you were so awesome to tough out the cold; thanks for trusting me that we’d get great photos!

As always, here are a few of my favorites:

Aren’t they so cute together?

Here’s the hotel lobby where we spent quite a bit of time staying warm, and a great art deco doorway:

We did manage to find some trees hinting at autumn and I like the fun color in the fallen leaves:

I loved Jillian’s shoes:

It was great that they could just cuddle to stay warm and forget about being photographed:

Jillian has such a great smile!

We also stayed warm down in the subway for a little bit. Totally worth it, if you ask me!

I always like to try to snap a photo of couples holding hands. This one is really sweet:

And I never tire of finding reflections in an image. I love this one:

Jillian and Kyle, I’m so excited to photograph your wedding next year! Thanks for making this engagement session so beautiful!

Aimee & Eric - A New Jersey Engagement Session - Lambert Castle

I spent a morning last week with Aimee and Eric at Lambert Castle in Paterson, NJ. The castle might seem a place reserved only for fairy-tale wedding dress photos (I’ve done a number of formal portraits of brides and grooms here), but I’ve been finding it to be a great spot for engagement sessions as well. Not only does it offer a very cool building (after all, it is a castle!) but also a beautiful park area that adds another dimension to photos.

I often tell my couples to simply talk amongst themselves as I’m photographing them. When I checked back in with Aimee and Eric after shooting these images at a distance, they told me they were reminiscing about their love story. (Aw!) They met when they were 15 and although they say they tried to go their separate ways a few times through high school and college, they always kept coming back to each other. Aimee said to me, “We never thought we’d really end up together, and now look at us!” Yes, look at them! In many of their images they do look to be inseparable.

They also brought along their 8-month old dog, Jax, who was such a cutie. I was glad to get a few images of him even if he did just want to play the whole time! And I guess he stole the show a bit since he even got his own individual portrait.

Like I said, there’s a great park setting, and then check out the Castle!

And finally, I love the feeling in this image. These two have a chemistry that is so awesome!

Thanks again you two for a great session. I loved hanging out with you and I can’t wait for your wedding in October!
