Save the Dates are So Much Fun!

Over the holidays, I received some lovely Save the Date cards from a few of my 2011 couples. I love that even though you all know the date is already saved on my calendar, you think to send me one anyway - especially when when you use a photo or two from your engagement session. :) Thanks! I love getting mail. And yes, they absolutely go on my fridge.

I particularly wanted to point out the card below to any planning brides out there who might be looking for a DIY, customizable Save the Date. I recognized it right away because I’ve seen it before on one of my favorite wedding blogs - The Wedding Chicks. Did you know they have a ton of free downloadable DIY projects? Anything from save the dates to invitations to menus. Super cute stuff. You can see them all here.

P.S. This definitely not a sponsored post - just something I really love and wanted to share!

P.P.S. Want to see more from the engagement sessions of the couples above? See Jenn and Phil’s here, Florencia and Jason’s here, and Kelly and Chris’s here.

Jane + Mike | A New Jersey Wedding

It was such a joy to travel from Chicago to New Jersey to capture Jane and Mike’s gorgeous winter wedding. I already knew from their engagement session that I was in for a smile-filled day with two people who absolutely love to laugh!

Jane and Mike have been together for over 10 years, and that was easy to see on their wedding day. Mike has this innate ability to make Jane giggle just by being in the room with her, and Jane doesn’t hold back - her smile as genuine as one can get.

The stunning blue bridesmaid dresses, incredibly detailed white bouquets, and elaborate winter centerpieces were all pretty spectacular, but didn’t hold a candle to how truly beautiful this couple is together.

Jane and Mike - Thank you, thank you, thank you, for trusting me to photograph your wedding. I felt truly at home among your family and friends, and I had a blast celebrating with you! Thank you for making my job truly one of the best in the world.

Katsura + Adam | A Blue Hill at Stone Barns Wedding

Both incredibly talented musicians and self-described foodies, Katsura and Adam could not have chosen a more perfect setting for their late summer wedding than the elegant and naturally beautiful Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Friends and family gathered in the outdoor space for a wedding celebration highlighted with original and classical music, kissed by the crisp country air of the Hudson Valley, and seasoned by the culinary offerings of the surrounding farms and gardens.

I feel so blessed to have met this wonderful couple and to have celebrated with them. Their wedding was one of the most beautiful that I have ever witnessed.

I love how Katsura’s smile mirrored her mother’s. Such truly beautiful women!

Katsura and Adam incorporated a First Look into their day, allowing them a moment of time alone before the ceremony, and resulting in some truly romantic portraits.

I really enjoyed creating their wedding pictures at historic Lyndhurst, an amazing castle-like estate in Tarrytown, NY.

Her dress was stunning; I couldn’t help but photograph it from all angles throughout the day. And I just love how Adam can make her laugh!

Katsura’s flowers were designed by the talented Opalia Flowers out of Brooklyn.

I couldn’t resist some dancing photos in Lyndhurst’s towering archways.

Katsura planned the day so well, and we had plenty of time before the ceremony to create beautiful wedding pictures with the bridal party in a relaxed, stress-free manner.

Over at Stone Barns, the day was equally gorgeous in preparation of the ceremony.

Guests enjoyed these beautiful Japanese paper fans to keep cool during the ceremony.

Inspired by the herb gardens at Blue Hill, leaves of sage gently framed the base of all of the bouquets, and the San San Kudo set (used in their traditional Japanese sake ceremony) almost glowed in the sunny daylight.

The San San Kudo was a very special part of their ceremony.

The rings, beautifully set on this hand-made nest pillow, were passed through the aisles to allow guests a moment of reflection over them.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was an incredible musical interlude personally arranged by Adam and played by musicians who were also friends, family, and members of the wedding party.

At the end of the cocktail hour, I even had a chance to capture a photo of all of the guests!

And Katsura and Adam continued to wow me with their beauty.

Katsura’s mother’s beautiful calligraphy graced all of the escort cards and place cards.

All of the food at Blue Hill is a work of art in vision and taste - from the hors d’oeuvres through each and every dinner course.

A Thank You, Wedding Albums, Chicago, and much to blog!

This was no ordinary week. I moved 800 miles away from NYC. I was actually a guest at a wedding in Michigan. And I woke up in a new apartment in Chicago.

As I sit here with my short cup of Starbucks Anniversary Blend, using the internet and uploading a wedding to my proofing site, I’m struck with so many feelings. Some are expected - the exhaustion from moving, the frustration that Comcast can’t install my office internet until next Wednesday (how are they always so slow?!), and the excitement that I’m actually here in Chicago. But, I’m also struck with an overwhelming feeling of thanksgiving and a little nostalgia when thinking of New York and New Jersey and the amazing summer of weddings I’ve had there. I guess I’m just not one to move on to the next thing too quickly without reflecting on what’s happened before.

You see, today I really feel it’s necessary to thank you for reading my blog. For being my clients and my friends. For really looking at the images. For commenting so that the beautiful people in these photographs know just how beautiful they really are. For just the few minutes you spend here, whether it’s your first visit or your twenty-fifth, for all of that, I thank you.

And now, how about an update? I’m officially moved in and living in Chicago! My husband is settling in to his new office here, and I’m catching up on the remaining summer wedding and portrait sessions that I have yet to blog. You’ll see a lot of fun things showing up here over the next couple of weeks. I have so much to blog!

Here’s a little preview of what’s in store:

  • First, I thought I’d show you something that arrived today. :) Jillian and Kyle‘s wedding album is in! It looked so amazing when it arrived at my door that I had to snap a few photos. Now that it’s on its way to their home in Pennsylvania, I’m excited to show you a glimpse of what the finished album looks like!

  • Next up, I promise you’ll love Florencia and Jason’s Hoboken, NJ, engagement session. This couple is incredibly gorgeous - and while I was shooting, I learned that Florencia and I have the same birthday! I don’t know how that came up, but somehow we figured out that we’re both February 28 gals. :) And, no, it wasn’t a leap year either of the years that we were born. ;) (Florencia will get that!)

  • Then, a little later, you’ll love the sweet images from Aimee’s newborn baby’s photo session. I love when my wedding clients ask me to photograph their new babies!

  • Also, stay tuned for a real CHICAGO engagement session! Woohoo!

Love you all. You’re the best. Happy Friday. :)
