Sarah & Drew - A Central Park Engagement Session

This is one of those blog posts where I just want to start typing a bunch of exclamation points; I’m so excited to share these images. Really!!!!!!! I love this couple! (There, I got it out of my system.) ;)

Sarah and Drew are such a fun-loving couple and their attitude is contagious. I found myself laughing right along with them, and in all of our rambling around Central Park, I think I became just as excited about their wedding as they are. I don’t know what else to say except that I wouldn’t mind speeding right through winter to get to this wedding. But, for now, let’s get to the engagement photos!

I love that there were so many leaves out on the Great Lawn and the light was just right:

Drew is so good at making Sarah laugh!

We headed over to Bethesda Terrace to get a few images by the Angel of Waters Fountain. This place is always packed, and it was especially so on this amazing day, but I love that we managed to minimize the extra people in this shot.

They’re relaxed, happy, and in love. Makes for good engagement photos!

I was so thrilled when I looked through these branches of colorful leaves to find perfect placement for each of their faces. :)

This willow tree is one of my absolute favorite spots in Central Park. I loved it in the spring when I shot Neha & Joe’s engagement session, and here it is again with the leaves about ready to fall:

This couple is good at every look: romantic, joyful, serious. Here they are being fabulously fierce:

And incredibly cute:

There is such an awesome mix of natural daylight and fluorescent lights in this space:

So happy:

The colors on this afternoon were perfect. The last bit of autumn, and I think the best way to spend a day like this is by making photographs!

Finally, this is one of my absolute favorites. I just love everything about it:

Wow, Sarah and Drew, you guys are so much fun! I can’t wait for your wedding next year!

Jillian + Kyle - A Central Park Engagement Session

What can you do on a chilly, windy Sunday afternoon in New York City? Why not an engagement session? :) This fabulous couple and I had been planning on this particular afternoon for the past two months, since Kyle would be driving in from Pennsylvania. They had everything planned: Jillian’s super-cute red sweater, their perfectly faded jeans, and the evening after the session to be spent with family in NJ. I anticipated perfect fall colors and a mild day in Central Park, but didn’t quite get what I had planned! I’m always up for a challenge, and I had my good photo friend Nicole along for the ride, so we knew for sure that this photo session (however chilly) would be fantastic.

We split our time between the warmth of a hotel lobby and the cool air of Central Park, and I’m willing to say this engagement session has become one of my favorites. Jillian and Kyle, you were so awesome to tough out the cold; thanks for trusting me that we’d get great photos!

As always, here are a few of my favorites:

Aren’t they so cute together?

Here’s the hotel lobby where we spent quite a bit of time staying warm, and a great art deco doorway:

We did manage to find some trees hinting at autumn and I like the fun color in the fallen leaves:

I loved Jillian’s shoes:

It was great that they could just cuddle to stay warm and forget about being photographed:

Jillian has such a great smile!

We also stayed warm down in the subway for a little bit. Totally worth it, if you ask me!

I always like to try to snap a photo of couples holding hands. This one is really sweet:

And I never tire of finding reflections in an image. I love this one:

Jillian and Kyle, I’m so excited to photograph your wedding next year! Thanks for making this engagement session so beautiful!

Danny, Kate & Isaac ~ Portraits in Central Park

I was so honored to photograph this beautiful family in Central Park last month. Little Isaac is a bubbly, sweet, adorable 1-year-old, and his mom, Kate, is a relative of a friend of mine from college. It was such a treat to spend some time capturing images of Isaac’s personality and also a few of the complete family!

Isaac’s eyes rock my socks off:

Again. Those eyes! And the whole family sure is stunning.

This shot is a favorite of mine. I’ve overlooked this bridge and tree as a backdrop before. I’m not going to miss it next time I’m in Central Park.

We managed to capture a few of Kate & Danny alone too. They had planned to do a “day-after” wedding portrait session in their wedding attire, but because of an unlucky chain of events with their wardrobe, we settled on a family session instead. Hopefully we’ll still get another try in their wedding attire at a later date!

Once we got out this bright blue bouncy-ball, Isaac sure let us know how much fun he was having. :)

What a sweet little man!

Thanks again to Danny, Kate & Isaac for a great session!

Neha & Joe - A Central Park Engagement Session

As luck would have it, Neha and Joe chose the most perfect spring day we’ve had yet in the New York metro area for their engagement photos. Were you in NYC last Sunday? It was amazing! We certainly had to battle crowds in Central Park, but it was all worth it for these images.

It may have taken them a little while to warm up to photos, but check out this giggle by the daffodils. (Like many couples say to me before their engagement session, they had this silly notion that they don’t look good in pictures.) Uh huh, yeah sure.

Incredibly beautiful, no?

I love how in these two images you’d have thought we had the park to ourselves. How about some dancing?!

But the crowds really were there, as you can see in this image:

And I just loooooved this spot. The buds on this weeping willow tree absolutely sparkled, so Neha and Joe took this opportunity to sparkle themselves.

Neha and Joe, I can’t wait to shoot your wedding in June!

that happy spring feeling

It’s really spring! Thank the Lord! And what better way to celebrate than to take a stroll (or many strolls) through Central Park to enjoy the flowering trees, blue sky, and beautiful daylight. My brother Jordan was in town this past week, and we spent a pretty significant amount of time in the city, walking through various sections of Central Park more times than I can count. Here’s a shot that just says “spring” to me. I hope it gives you that happy spring feeling too.
