Jessica & Greg ~ NJ Botanical Gardens Engagement Session

About a week ago, I had the honor of hanging out for a couple of hours with this super cool couple. I think it was actually the peak day for autumn color this season; the perfect moment of oranges, yellows and reds on trees still full of their leaves. The parking lots of the NJ Botanical Gardens were absolutely packed with people taking advantage of the beautiful day.

Jess and Greg are getting married next July, and just from this session, I know for a fact their wedding is going to be so full of love and laughter. I can’t wait! Here are a few of my favorites from this totally delightful engagement session:

It’s hard for me to pick a favorite favorite, but this is definitely one of them:

And, wow. Where did spring come from?! Were these pink leaves not the coolest find?!

What a PERFECT session! Thanks, Jess and Greg, for rockin’ it!

Aimee & Eric - A New Jersey Engagement Session - Lambert Castle

I spent a morning last week with Aimee and Eric at Lambert Castle in Paterson, NJ. The castle might seem a place reserved only for fairy-tale wedding dress photos (I’ve done a number of formal portraits of brides and grooms here), but I’ve been finding it to be a great spot for engagement sessions as well. Not only does it offer a very cool building (after all, it is a castle!) but also a beautiful park area that adds another dimension to photos.

I often tell my couples to simply talk amongst themselves as I’m photographing them. When I checked back in with Aimee and Eric after shooting these images at a distance, they told me they were reminiscing about their love story. (Aw!) They met when they were 15 and although they say they tried to go their separate ways a few times through high school and college, they always kept coming back to each other. Aimee said to me, “We never thought we’d really end up together, and now look at us!” Yes, look at them! In many of their images they do look to be inseparable. :)

They also brought along their 8-month old dog, Jax, who was such a cutie. I was glad to get a few images of him even if he did just want to play the whole time! And I guess he stole the show a bit since he even got his own individual portrait.

Like I said, there’s a great park setting, and then check out the Castle!

And finally, I love the feeling in this image. These two have a chemistry that is so awesome!

Thanks again you two for a great session. I loved hanging out with you and I can’t wait for your wedding in October!

Krista & Jason - A New Jersey Botanical Gardens Engagement Session

Even though this isn’t a sneak peak for Krista & Jason (they’ve already seen all their photos) I wanted to post a few of my faves from their engagement session two weeks ago. These two will be married in June of 2010, and have just about every major part of their day planned already. Krista’s clearly a meticulous planner, and I think it’s making it even harder for her to wait patiently one more year to do wedding photos! :) Maybe we’ll just have to schedule a “Day Before” photo session instead of a “Day After” session if they can’t wait any longer to don their wedding attire. ;) But, time flies, as they say. Really, it does.

I have two more weddings to shoot this weekend, and I’m going to follow that up with a much-needed relaxing Monday. I may need a massage instead of a barbeque this Memorial Day. But, I digress… Here are a few photos of this super cute couple! By the way, this session took place at the NJ Botanical Gardens at Skylands.

P.S. I have another post coming up very soon from Yaeko and Eric’s wedding! Stay tuned!

Neha & Joe - A Central Park Engagement Session

As luck would have it, Neha and Joe chose the most perfect spring day we’ve had yet in the New York metro area for their engagement photos. Were you in NYC last Sunday? It was amazing! We certainly had to battle crowds in Central Park, but it was all worth it for these images.

It may have taken them a little while to warm up to photos, but check out this giggle by the daffodils. (Like many couples say to me before their engagement session, they had this silly notion that they don’t look good in pictures.) Uh huh, yeah sure.

Incredibly beautiful, no?

I love how in these two images you’d have thought we had the park to ourselves. How about some dancing?!

But the crowds really were there, as you can see in this image:

And I just loooooved this spot. The buds on this weeping willow tree absolutely sparkled, so Neha and Joe took this opportunity to sparkle themselves.

Neha and Joe, I can’t wait to shoot your wedding in June!

Lauren + Matt ~ A ‘Just Because’ Session

When we began planning Lauren and Matt’s session, Lauren told me that she thought ‘Engagement Session’ was a funny title since they had been engaged for months! Hey, I completely understand that; most of my couples book me months after their engagement. And, well, I’m not married to that session title … how about a ‘Just Because’ session instead? :) So that’s what we decided on.

Lauren is planning a beautiful theme for their October wedding … sort of a ‘Spring into Fall’ motif and I had that in mind when I was setting up this shot. Did I get it right Lauren?

I loved the spring buds on the trees, but I also really enjoy this one in a nice warm black and white:

I wasn’t entirely sure if Lauren and Matt were country folk, so I asked if a shot by the barn was cool with them. Turns out Lauren is an equestrian gal, so the barn was a go! We also got a kick out of the pig weather vane. So cute!

We even stepped into the barn for a quick shot. And sure, it wasn’t an engagement session per se, but I still had to get a shot of the ring!

And finally, this covered bridge was so great with a nice tunnel of light filtering in … love it!

Would you have guessed all of these photos were shot at a zoo? The zoo at Van Saun County Park in Bergen County, NJ, to be precise. It’s one of Lauren and Matt’s favorite places and it made a perfect setting for their photos!
